Severn Athletics Brings Home Four Winter Conference Championships

For the first time in a decade, the Severn Admirals earned four conference championships in the winter season, with MIAA B-Conference tournament wins by JV and Varsity Boys Basketball, Varsity Wrestling and Varsity Boys Swimming.
Varsity Boys Basketball defeated Gerstell Academy in the B-Conference Championship game on Saturday afternoon at UMBC, just one day after the JV Boys squad came away with the win in a close contest against Chapelgate Christian Academy.

Earlier this month, the Varsity Boys Swim Team landed atop the podium at the MIAA B-Conference Championship Meet and the Varsity Wrestling Squad finished out the season as the MIAA B-Conference Tournament Champions and the MIAA B-Conference Dual Meet Champions.

The Varsity Girls Basketball team earned the most regular season wins since 2016, advancing to the semifinals of the IAAM B-Conference Tournament for the first time in nearly a decade. And Varsity Girls Swimming placed second at the IAAM B Conference Championships, missing out on the top spot by less than 10 points.

Severn Admirals individually recorded a number of notable accomplishments as well. Kenzie Getz ’25 and Aliza Monaldo ’24 both set new school records for Girls Swimming; Kingston Price ’24 surpassed 1000 career points; and Nick Melfi ’25 became just the ninth Admiral ever to become an All American at the national Prep Wrestling Championships over the weekend, going 4-1 on the first day, 3-2 on the second day, and notching wins over the ninth and seventh-ranked wrestlers. In Boys Swimming, two records were set and then reset this season. Court Barrett ’26 improved his 100m backstroke to 54.21, besting his own school record of 54.36 seconds from November, 2023. The 200m free relay team of Harlan Erskine ’25, Rhett Walker ’27, Cal Olenec ’26 and Court Barrett ’26 set a new school record in early December, coming in at 1:38.62. Later in the season, they improved that record-setting time to 1:38.38.

On the coaching side another record was set earlier this season when Varsity Swim Coach Erin Domenech recorded her 100th win with the program.
