    Severn offers paid personal leave and sick leave. Full-time employees are eligible to earn vacation time.

    Additionally, Severn closes for two, two-week periods during the year. These are Winter Break and Spring Break. (Full-time 12-month employees are required to work one of those four weeks.)
  • Tuition Remission

    Each full-time faculty and staff member is eligible for 50 percent tuition remission for children admitted to the School. 
  • New Faculty Support

    Our 122 full- and part-time faculty members allow for the small 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and the average class size of 14. New faculty are enrolled in a mentoring program that assists them in acclimating to our community as well as allowing time for reflection on issues related to being a teacher. All employees are supported by the appropriate division head, the academic dean, as well as department chairs and peer mentors. 
  • Professional Development

    Faculty are encouraged to pursue professional development. Severn School assists employees in paying 75 percent of tuition costs for education which maintains or improves skills required for the employee’s current position or meets express requirements imposed by the School as a condition of employment.

  • Accounting Manager, Business Office

    Job Title: Accounting Manager, Business Office
     
    Supervisor: Chris Sapienza, Director of Business and Finance
     
    Start Date: Immediate Opening
     
    Essential Functions:
    • Perform Fund 1 (Operating) general ledger maintenance and detailed analysis of on-going account activity.
    • Coordinate month-end and year-end closings. Prepare supporting schedules. Communicate financial data to departments and APA on a monthly basis for review. Respond to feedback.
    • Prepare financial statements requiring minimal adjusting entries for annual audit. Compile detailed supporting schedules to support general ledger transactions.  Maintain proficient knowledge of general ledger accounts to respond to auditor inquiries.
    • Generate and analyze the annual budget. Assemble and assess input from department heads and management. Summarize budget figures for board review. Evaluate actual vs budget figures throughout the year. Generate projections as required.
    • Track and allocate equipment leases and equipment maintenance contracts annually.
    • Assist in implementation of online summer program payment/management tool. Download and format EFT and credit card payment reports. Post and reconcile summer program deposits. Prepare summer program financial statements.
    • Devise, implement, and document accounting and control procedures. Develop appropriate forms and tools used by the Business Office and faculty/staff to facilitate internal control maintenance.
    • Develop tools and procedures to simplify/automate tasks and create user friendly processes.
    • Track/record transactions and compile financial statements for special events such as the APA Golf Outing and Spring Fundraiser as well as school sponsored student trips (ie, Italy Exchange trip, Chess trip, etc).
    • Manage and reconcile various bank and credit card merchant accounts on a monthly basis. Review and record daily deposits.
    • Assist with reconciliation of AP and AR subsidiary ledgers to general ledger.
    • Manage fixed asset schedule, including identifying, recording, and categorizing all acquisitions and disposals. Record depreciation expense and gain/loss on disposals. Preserve updated and accurate fixed asset data in both Blackbaud and FAS.
    • Prepare various filings and informational returns including but not limited to Maryland Charitable Organization Registration and Personal Property Tax Return. Comply with deadlines and reporting requirements.
    • Prepare liquidity ratio biannually as required by bank for bond risk analysis.
    • Reconcile interfund activity with other fund managers. Maintain accurate schedules of interfund and discretionary account activity as well as PRRSSM and Severnet transactions.
    • Assist in determining on-site housing annual lease payments by analyzing prior year data to calculate fair and profitable adjustments to tenant rent.
    • Maintain operating petty cash account.
    • Perform special projects as necessary.
    Qualifications:
    • Proficiency in Blackbaud FE7/FENXT desired.
    • 5+ years of relevant non-profit/school experience/audit experience desired.
    • CPA required.

  • Lower School After School Care Teachers and Assistants

    Severn Lower School After School Care Teachers and Assistants

    Reports To: Before and After School Care (BASC) Administrator

    Description of Role: Severn School is seeking qualified and experienced teachers and assistants for its Lower School after-school program (preschool through grade 5). 

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Severn School's BASC (Before and After School Care) Program provides a safe, supervised space for students to do homework, read, play, and socialize with friends. BASC teachers and assistants supervise students during after-school activities including indoor and outdoor play, snack, and homework. 

    Work hours range from 2:30pm-6:00pm Monday-Friday. Candidates must be able to work at least 3 days per week. 

    Qualifications: Candidates must have experience in a school setting and preferred candidates will hold 90-hour certification in school age child care (or equivalent approved college coursework).

  • Middle School Administrative Assistant

    Job Title: Middle School Administrative Assistant

    Supervisor: Head of Middle School 

    Start Date: Immediate Opening

    General Summary: Severn School is searching for a full-time Middle School Administrative Assistant to begin as soon as possible.

    Essential Functions: The middle school administrative assistant supports the middle school head in the daily function of the school. Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing administrative support to ensure efficient school operations, answering phone calls and supporting parent questions, managing the middle school head’s calendar and overall middle school calendar, preparing middle school faculty meetings, and working closely with other administrative staff, managing daily attendance and records, and presenting a positive and professional image for the middle school.
    Severn faculty and staff is a community of learners committed to ongoing professional development, reflection, collaboration, and collegiality, and a premium is placed on middle school education best practices and valuing the young adolescent.

    Qualifications: The ideal candidate is highly organized and collaborative, enjoys working with middle school children, and has a respectful, approachable, and professional manner. Experience working in school and office administration support positions is highly preferable, but not a requirement.
