    Severn offers paid personal leave and sick leave. Full-time employees are eligible to earn vacation time.

    Additionally, Severn closes for two, two-week periods during the year. These are Winter Break and Spring Break. (Full-time employees are required to work one of those four weeks.)
  • Tuition Remission

    Each full-time faculty and staff member is eligible for 50 percent tuition remission for children admitted to the School. 
  • New Faculty Support

    Our 122 full- and part-time faculty members allow for the small 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and the average class size of 14. New faculty are enrolled in a mentoring program that assists them in acclimating to our community as well as allowing time for reflection on issues related to being a teacher. All employees are supported by the appropriate division head, the academic dean, as well as department chairs and peer mentors. 
  • Professional Development

    Faculty are encouraged to pursue professional development. Severn School assists employees in paying 75 percent of tuition costs for education which maintains or improves skills required for the employee’s current position or meets express requirements imposed by the School as a condition of employment.

  • Assistant Librarian - Long Term Substitute

    Assistant Librarian - Long Term Substitute

    Severn School seeks a long-term substitute for an Assistant Librarian position to support students and faculty in grades 6-12.

    Reporting to the Library Director, the Assistant Librarian will help ensure the library is a welcoming, service-oriented place. In conjunction with other library staff, this temporary employee will supervise a two-story library that is often bustling with students and faculty. This individual will also assist with collection inventory, circulation, and student clubs.

    This temporary position begins in late March 2025 and ends on June 6, 2025 (The actual dates will be determined prior to hire.)

    Qualifications (preferred candidates will possess the following qualifications):
    · Completed or current enrollment in an MILS/MLS program AND/OR previous experience working in a public library or school library
    · Experience working with children and young adults
    · Ability to establish effective and collaborative working relationships with students and colleagues
    · Appropriate technology skills to accomplish job responsibilities
    · Strong organizational and time management skills

    Position Expectations (the individual selected to fill this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities, though the list is not exhaustive):
    · Open the library at 7:30 AM OR close the library at 4:00 PM
    · Supervise middle and upper school students
    · Help with the monthly Middle School Book Club and Library Club for April and May
    · Help with the Middle School Battle of the Books
    · Help students with printing/copying*
    · Circulate materials*
    · Help with end-of-year collection inventory*
    *We will provide onboarding and training for these duties.

  • Chesapeake Campus After School Care Teachers and Assistants

    Job Title:   Before and After School Care (BASC) Teacher and Assistant

    Reports To:  Before and After School Care (BASC) Administrator

    Description of Role:  Severn School is seeking qualified and experienced teachers and assistants for its after-school program at the Lower School (preschool through grade 5).

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:  Severn School's BASC (Before and After School Care) Program runs from 3:00-6:00pm, Monday through Friday.  BASC Teachers and Assistants supervise students during after-school activities including indoor and outdoor play, snack, homework, and transitions to and from after-school clubs. Candidates need to be able to work 3, 4, or 5 days a week.

    Qualifications:  Candidates must have experience in a school setting and preferred candidates will hold 90-hour certification in school age child care (or equivalent approved college coursework).

The long-term Math sub will teach algebra and geometry, study halls, and advising.

    Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background with a degree in a related field.     General Summary: Severn School is searching for a full time Upper School Spanish teacher to begin in August of 2025. 

    Essential Functions: Instruction at Severn starts with relationships and emphasizes the importance of understanding, connections, and teamwork in order to create a learning environment that promotes both achievement and inclusivity. The Severn faculty is a community of learners committed to ongoing professional development, reflection, collaboration, and collegiality, and a premium is placed on the development and employment of intentional teaching, learning, and assessment methods. Severn believes that all aspects of a student’s experience, including but not limited to leadership training, service, clubs, the advisory program, athletics, and the arts, are necessary components of a Severn education. Faculty participation in these pursuits beyond the classroom reflects the collective commitment to living the school’s deep-rooted mission, which promises that students are known and valued.

    Qualifications: The ideal candidate can teach multiple levels of Upper School Spanish, will have a strong educational background with a degree in a related field, and will possess a steadfast commitment to the life of the school beyond the classroom. Athletic coaching experience and previous secondary school teaching experience are preferred but not required.   • Buildings & Grounds Department

    Job Title:   Buildings and Grounds Team Member

    Reports To:  Director of Business and Finance

    Description of Role:  Candidate’s main responsibility, as a member of the Buildings and Grounds Department, is to help maintain a safe and clean campus for Severn’s Students, employees and visitors. Severn’s 22-acre campus includes three academic buildings, an Alumni Affairs/Development Building, a sports complex, four athletic fields, parking lots and eight residential houses.  

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:  Opening and closing of buildings; Maintain HV/AC systems; Maintain buildings and residences to include minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting; Maintain grounds to include: picking up trash, emptying trash receptacles, sweeping sidewalks and cleaning entryway glasses; Deliver packages; clean and fill buses with gas and other fluids.

    Other Duties:  Set-up and facilitate events such as: Assemblies, Homecoming Weekend, Alumni Weekend, Open House, Productions and Graduation.
    Seasonal Duties: Clean gutters and downspouts; Blow and rake leaves; Maintaining flower beds, bushes and trees; Remove snow and salt walkways.

    Qualifications:  Candidate must pass background check.  Must be able to perform the following tasks:  Climb ladders; Work with gas/electric powered tools; Drive a pickup; Drive an activity bus; Operate utility vehicles.

We provide built-in professional development opportunities throughout the school year, support faculty travel to conferences, offer grants for personal and professional growth, and offer a robust line-up of summer PD classes taught by and for Severn faculty.
