Specialists

We are committed to meeting the individual needs of a diverse group of learners at Severn School. Children do best when they have a committed team of adults supporting them. Our Learning Specialists collaborate with the classroom teachers to differentiate instruction and support students within the classroom and in small group settings.

What Do Learning Specialists Do?

Our specialists conduct screenings, interviews and assessments to create an academic profile to identify areas of strength and weakness. The learning team provides remediation and support in the areas of:

emergent reading skills
reading comprehension
written expression
study skills
mathematics

The team also offers enrichment for students who need further challenge in language arts and/or mathematics. The learning specialists provide ongoing professional development and support for faculty to ensure classroom practices reflect the latest methodologies, materials and research.
