The Water Street Players Proudly Present: CLUE

Severn's Upper School Fall Play is the classic movie and board game CLUE.
Murder! Mystery! Slapstick mayhem! These are just a few things you can expect when coming to the Water Street Players production of CLUE. Based on the cult classic film released in 1985, CLUE embraces the story and characters of the original Parker Brothers board game and translates them for the stage.

Set in 1954 near Washington D.C, CLUE occurs in the mysterious and foreboding Boddy Manor. The film noir-esque Mr. Boddy has invited six esteemed guests to a dinner party with sinister ulterior motives. When his true intentions are revealed, blackmail, murder, and chaos ensue. Who killed who? With what? Where?! That's for you to find out.

Behind the show's chaos is a high level of control and choreography. The physical comedy on display demands skill, focus, and countless hours of practice from its actors. Students have taken crash courses in stage combat, falls, strikes, and even spit takes to allow the audience to worry for the character rather than the actor. The set is designed on top of revolving turntables that make the tricks, twists, and turns of Boddy Manor's nine different rooms come to life. Almost 30 Severn students and staff have participated in making this show a reality.

"I have been a huge fan of CLUE since the movie came out in 1985," said Dr. Elizabeth Patterson, Director. "The stylization of the characters as it translates from the board game to the film to the stage is an exciting aspect of the show."

"The other piece of the show is the idea of teaching comedy as a skillset," said Patterson. "The opportunity the students have had to learn physical comedy and the importance of ensemble in comedy is very exciting for me and them."

CLUE runs November 21st – 23rd with one show daily in Price Auditorium at 7 p.m.
