Winter Revels Concert Marks 46th Year of Music Magic

The 46th annual Winter Revels Concert unites the Severn community through musical performance.
For nearly five decades, the Winter Revels Concert has been a cherished Severn tradition—a highly anticipated celebration that marks the end of the semester through music and community. What began in 1978 as a modest performance by a choir and chamber orchestra has evolved into an artistic medley showcasing the immense talent of Severn's Upper School students.

This year’s Revels promises to delight the audience with its diverse program. From Breakwater’s rich a cappella harmonies to high-energy jam bands, treble choir, and instrumental ensembles, the concert is a demonstration of musical expression and collaboration at its best.

"All across the board, these students are talented," said Director of Instrumental Ensembles Frank Donn. "Getting to showcase their hard work and talents is an exciting way to end the semester."

For students, the opportunity to provide joy and bring the community together in celebration is the goal. Doing this together only serves to make the moment more poignant.

"I feel most at home when I'm performing with the people I care about most," said Hadley Nicholl '26. "It's not just about the performance; it’s about the bond you create with your fellow musicians and the connection you feel to the music."

This celebrated concert is the result of months of teamwork and dedication by students. The 2024 program includes performances by instrumental ensemble, treble choir, vocal ensemble, jam bands 1 and 3, and Breakwater. These groups will perform a variety of songs, from traditional holiday favorites such as My Favorite Things to modern hits like No Time to Die and The Greatest by Billie Eilish.

"I'm most proud of students being supportive of one other," said US Arts Chair Rob Redei. "They don’t just share their talents—they share in the collective success of this annual musical celebration.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10th. It is free for Severn students, parents, and faculty.
