Admiral Athletes and Coaches Earn Individual Conference Honors for Fall
It was good to be an Admiral this fall, as successful seasons for numerous teams translated to individual MIAA and IAAM accolades for coaches and players alike.
The most high profile of these fall season conference awards for the Admirals went to Varsity Football Coach Demetrius Ballard, who was named MIAA Football Coach of the Year. Under Ballard’s leadership, the Admirals went 7-4 and earned a spot in the playoffs in their first season in the competitive MIAA B Conference. His talented squad also defeated the rival St. Mary’s Saints in the annual Severn River Classic for the first time in almost a decade.
In another coaching highlight, Boys Soccer Head Coach Mike McCarthy achieved a new milestone when he earned his 200th win with the Admirals. McCarthy set this record with a 2-1 victory over St. Mary’s in the MIAA B-Conference semifinals.
On the student-athlete side, Will Cawlfield ’25 was named Athlete of the Year for B Conference Soccer. Also notable, cross country athlete Emma Patrick’26 was named IAAM Athlete of the Week in late October, in recognition of her back-to-back first-place wins in the IAAM Cross Country Championships.
Additionally, two members of the field hockey program – senior captain Josie Elion and Head Coach Giovani Gordon – were invited to represent Severn in the 2024 Susan Pusey Field Hockey Coaches Association Senior Game in November.
