Senior swimmer Aliza Monaldo ‘24 has been named IAAM Athlete of the Week for the week of January 22. Monaldo swims freestyle, breaststroke and the IM.
Recent strong performances in wins over St. Vincent Pallotti and Key School contributed to this recognition. Monaldo won the 200 and 500 freestyles, 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke in those meets.
Last season, Monaldo was among the top finishers in the IAAM B Conference Championships, earning a first-place finish in the 500 meter freestyle, and second in the 200 m. She was also on the 400-m freestyle relay team that placed second and the 200-m medley team that finished third. Adding to her list of accolades, Monaldo earned All-Conference honors in 2023 and was named the team's MVP for the past two seasons.
“She is very goal-oriented, and she really stepped up during her junior year,” said Erin Domenech, Head Coach of the Severn Swim Team. “She can do anything she sets her mind to. It’s been fun to watch her develop, and she is a great role model for the younger swimmers. She will do any stroke that I ask her to do.”
After graduation from Severn, Monaldo intends to study biomedical engineering. She has a verbal commitment to Boston University next fall, which would allow her to continue her athletic career with the BU Swim Team.
