THE NEW CHESAPEAKE CAMPUS
A PROMISE
The new George '49 and Barbara Cromwell Lower School showcases innovative learning spaces to fundamentally change the growth, development, and overall experience of our youngest learners. Construction of the new campus began in the summer of 2025 and our doors opened in August 2026 for the 2026-27 academic year.

Welcome Center
Spanning over 65,000 square feet on two levels, students, faculty, parents, and visitors are greeted in a bright and welcoming entryway featuring floor-to-ceiling etched glass and doors to let in the natural sunlight and a dedicated reception area adjacent to the Flinchum gymnasium. -
Library and Media Center
Up the stairs from the welcome area is our new state-of-the-art Barbara Cromwell Library, a 2,400-square-foot space allowing flexibility, socialization, and teaching in group and individual settings. -
Outdoor Courtyard
A beautiful new outdoor courtyard provides our youngest students with easy access to outdoor learning and play and direct connection to classrooms. -
Dining Commons
The Veiel Family Dining Commons is a 2,300-square foot welcoming space for 160 students to be seated comfortably and a 400-person standing capacity. -
Multipurpose Room
A new 3200-square-foot multipurpose room --The Wilson Family Performance & Community Center -- offers an open floor plan and can host numerous social and academic functions for students, faculty, and the Severn community before, during, and after school. The area converts to a theater setting with 350 seats on retractable telescoping risers–enough space to comfortably seat our entire lower school. -
Outdoor Terrace
Outdoor terraces, such as the La Barge Family Outdoor Learning Terrace, allow for continued learning and outdoor exploration.

ENHANCEMENTS AND ENDOWMENTS
TEEL CAMPUS
Beyond the rebuilding of the Chesapeake Campus, Severn School will also be renovating and upgrading the performing arts facilities on the Teel campus and renewing our commitment to Severn’s endowment funds.
REJUVENATE THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
By rejuvenating the performing arts center on the Teel campus, we are able to magnify the experiences of our students, performers and the wider community, foster unity, and bolster communal well-being. Highlights include:

Elevate the interior of Price Auditorium, Inclusive of a new balcony addition, which will boost seating to 568–reflecting an enhancement of over 20% from current capacity. This will comfortably house the entire Upper School student body and faculty.

Transform the entrance and lobby, crafting a space that is more inviting, expansive, and vibrant for the whole Severn community.

Incorporate cutting-edge lighting and acoustical systems, brilliantly highlighting the prowess and artistry of our students.

With an endowed gift to Severn, the principal of your gift is invested and kept intact, and a percentage of the fund’s value is expended for the endowment’s purpose every year, extending the longevity and impact of your gift.
